Using the female form as a template Tree Dancers are my artistic vision of how we interact with the world around us They bathe in light, pull water up from the earth, exhale purity, and dance. Im not sure people credit the powerful energy that a tree represents. Trees have this incredible ability to pull life and form from the soil and using earth, water and light they structure themselves into the sky. That is what gives trees that dynamic that we read so many analogies into, and part of what allows the synthesis of Tree and Woman to work so well.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT: I feel that cycles – beginnings, growth and relationships in the world – are important to both discover and share. I am constantly wondering where things came from, what is within them and what they will become. As a child, I would hug a tree and try to see right inside of the trunk – eyes closed, visualizing the roots and sensing the flex and sway in the wind. My art reflects this abiding curiosity, which I can pursue and share with others by drawing out connections seen with the mind’s eye. My everyday world is filtered through eyes which are marked by a condition known as Anisometropia – where one eye is nearsighted and the other farsighted. This physical trait allows me to see images which are out of conscious...

Mark Johnson replied:
Thank you Anna. I run a sort of subtext or background idea pool as I draw the Dancers. I really like that you can sense that.

This is a very unusual & interesting series you've done. Saw it on a contest, but couldn't vote for it yet.
Mark Johnson replied:
I'm having fun with my Dancers David - not sure when or if I'll get tired of doing them because so far all I can see is possibilities :)
